Bongani has been involved in all aspects of Employment and Labour Law, predominantly advising and acting on behalf of employers. He has experience in advising employers on dealing with both collective and individual Labour Law and has been involved in major litigation in various Labour Law dispute resolution tribunals which include alternative dispute resolution, discrimination litigation relating to race and victimisation, review of arbitration awards and Rulings of Commissioners, Arbitrators and Panellists, urgent proceedings including the moving of urgent interdicts for unlawful strikes and violence during lawful strike action, and breach of contract.
Bongani worked as a Judge’s Associate for a prominent Judge of the Labour Court of South Africa Johannesburg during the year 2009 – 2010. Thereafter, Bongani articled with Perrott van Niekerk Woodhouse Matyolo Inc. until 2012, when he was then admitted as an Attorney. Bongani joined Taback’s Johannesburg office as an associate. His expertise includes collective employment law, including strikes, work force reductions on a massive scale, interpretation and enforcement of collective agreements.
Very recently, Bongani worked for the Standard Bank Group Limited as an Employee Relations Secondee from Tabacks overseeing, amongst others, mass retrenchments of staff in terms of s189A, overseeing individual disciplinary processes in respect of, mostly, senior staff members, and engaging in collective labour issues including advising on the ramifications of the Labour Relations Amendment Bill 2012 for the Banks staffing solutions.
