Anthony is a Corporate and Commercial lawyer with considerable experience in many aspects of Commercial and Regulatory Law including Mergers and Acquisitions, African Competition Law, drafting of contracts, company law and renewable energy projects. He regularly advises on matters such as merger approvals across Africa, compliance and training programs, anti-monopoly investigations, disputes, transactions, shareholder arrangements, due diligence investigations, commercial contracts and other regulatory matters.

Anthony completed his articles in 2004 and prior to joining Tabacks in 2018, served as a director at two large international law firms. He has over 15 years’ experience during which time he has acted for clients in a wide range of sectors, including aviation, construction, energy, manufacturing, mining, retail, property, telecommunications and financial services.

Notable projects Anthony has worked on include being involved in the establishment of South Africa’s second national operator, assisting a listed construction company in various acquisitions including a listed engineering consultancy firm and three construction companies, acting as competition counsel to obtain merger clearance for various transactions from the competition authorities in South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Namibia, Swaziland, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe and COMESA, responsible for the roll out and implementation of online competition law compliance program for various clients with operations in Sub-Saharan Africa  and assisting a large renewable energy company in the compilation of bid submission documents for multiple projects in respect of the REIPP Procurement Programme.

Anthony has worked on a number of significant matters, which include:

  • Advising US listed company in relation to the construction of four solar PV power plants in Namibia.

  • Representing Indian multi-national to obtain merger clearance from the South African competition authorities in relation to its acquisition of a South African mining operation.

  • Acting on behalf of insurance tech start-up in securing funding from large multi-national insurance company.

  • Assisting global logistics company to obtain merger clearance from the South African competition authorities in relation to their acquisition of a local freight forwarding company.

  • Representing equipment manufacturing company in relation to complaint investigations by the South African competition authorities.
